UHF 443.55 Repeater Update

The UHF Repeater 443.55 was removed for service on 3/23/25. One of the cooling fans has failed and needs to be replaced. There are two fans in each repeater, Presently, the fans run continuously. The cabinet fan has failed, the condition of the second fan on the transmitter heat sink is unknown.  Both will be replaced and a temperature controller will be installed which will control the fans to run only at a set temperature. Expect the repeater to be down for several days. The 2 meter repeater fans will be replaced later.

Tower work and 2 meter Fusion Repeater

All repeaters will be down for tower maintenance on Monday, April 5.  There will be installation of new antennas, and tower climbers will need to be working in a RF free environment.  No idea how long this will take but it should be done by end of day.

In addition, there will be a new Yaesu Fusion repeater installed for 2 meters.  This will replace the 40 year old GE MASTRII mobile radio which is showing its age.  The 2 meter Fusion repeater will be operating at a lower power level until  it can be matched to our existing amplifier. This consists of building an attenuator to reduce the 5 watt output of the Fusion repeater to match the 1 watt input requirement of the amplifier.  This might take a week or two to get done.  Also the existing UHF Fusion repeater will be connected to our existing controller which will result in slightly different audio and courtesy tones.

4/3 Meeting & License Test at the church are canceled

Our Friday, April 3rd meeting and amateur radio license test session at the church have been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. We hope to reschedule the presentation on attic antennas for a later date. Please note the May 1st meeting has a high likelihood of cancelation as well.

Instead of a face-to-face meeting, PAARC will have a First Friday Repeater Net with Ed, K3BVQ as Net Control. Repeater info: 147.21 / 147.81 MHz  PL 131.8

The board meeting scheduled for 3/20 is also in flux. We will either move it online or postpone it to a later date.

PAARC is doing what we can to keep our community safe. Thank you for your understanding.

Limerick Generating Station Drill – 11/19

The Limerick Generating Station Emergency Preparedness Drill will occur this Tuesday November 19.  As we have done in the past, PAARC has granted permission for Montgomery County ARES to use the 147.21 repeater and Berks County ARES to use the 224.02 repeater during this exercise.  It is possible that some activity may also show up on the 443.55  repeater.

We are requesting that normal communications that would occur on our repeaters be minimized or curtailed during the drill.  It is expected that the drill will be active between 4 PM and 8 PM.

Thanks for your cooperation.
